If you’ve visited our website lately or seen one of our new signs, you may have noticed something different about our brand. Yes, our visual identity is changing as we undergo our third major transformation in more than fifty years. A new generation of leadership is helping to guide our company through today’s retailing challenges as we rebrand one of New Hampshire’s top furniture retailers.
While the company’s core principles remain unchanged, Harris Family Furniture’s evolution has been substantial. Will Harris, the company’s Vice President, summed up the company’s philosophy. “Harris Family Furniture is built on two pillars, Quality of products, and Quality in services.”
The furniture industry was very different in the 1950s when Harris Family Furniture was founded. Geography limited the competitive landscape, and customers had similar tastes in styles. Local newspapers were the preferred means of communication. Millennial employees working on the company’s website or leading our efforts to support our social responsibility program “Harris Cares,” may have a difficult time imagining a time when part of a new gallery rollout involved installing new ashtrays in the showroom!
The 1980’s represented a period when each of the three stores served surprisingly different markets. Fabrics and frames which worked in one location would have limited appeal in another. At the same time, larger regional competitors began to have a significant impact in the market in central New Hampshire. It was during this period when the new branded image of Harris “Family” Furniture came into being. This family oriented atmosphere set our store apart from “big box” retailers. Consumers who purchased from us were treated to quality products as well as personal one-on-one service. At one point as many as eight family members (including multiple generations, and spouses) worked together in the business.
This logo represented us for many years, and became an iconic symbol of country style home furnishings in New Hampshire. While country furnishings are still part of the company’s product mix (especially at our Jelly Cupboard location), demographic shifts have changed the styles and expectations of our customer base. New construction is more prevalent in NH, and home purchases and furniture style preferences are shifting as a result. Our featured product lines and promotional communications follow these shifts. We carry several lines of furniture in contemporary and transitional styles.
Your home. Your style.
Our new tagline means that you, our customers, direct where we’re headed in terms of furniture options and choices. Today our relationships with companies like La-Z-Boy, Flexsteel, Stressless, Stearns & Foster and many others deliver quality and value like never before. Every piece of furniture at Harris goes through a three-step inspection process before we schedule it for delivery. This is in stark contrast to the industry norm, which is to deliver new merchandise uninspected in the original bag or the box. We also give our customers a convenient one hour time frame for NH delivery (two hours in the North Country of NH). Best of all, delivery is still offered free of charge.
Come experience the right blend of technology, positive attitude, hardworking staff members, and quality control systems at the “New” Harris Family Furniture. Each of our stores is located in a beautifully restored and remodeled original building. Our website has over a thousand products for you to browse through. You can also find new and enticing products at each of our convenient store locations. All this is why consumers across New Hampshire are turning to us for their furniture and mattress needs. We invite you to visit us in person or online at www.harrisfamilyfurniture.com.
